LiR Opportunities

LiR is flourishing!
Within our LiR membership, we have a wealth of life experience: we’ve travelled the world, raised families, worked at jobs, had a career, pursued hobbies, built businesses, and taught others. We have an entire reservoir of knowledge that often lies fallow once we retire. LiR offers an opportunity to share your skills, experience and knowledge as a teacher, a speaker or as a volunteer.

Please consider joining the important work done throughout LiR via the link below. Your ideas, energy and support are needed and most appreciated! LiR makes a difference as do the indefatigable volunteers who join in the effort.

Teaching Opportunties

We actively seek out members of LiR and members of the general community to teach courses and/or give Friday presentations. The Program Committee always welcomes new ideas and will work with you to set up a course or presentation. To reach the committee, contact lir.connect@gmail.com.

Courses

Multi-session courses and seminars offer a wide range of interesting subjects that have included: painting, line dancing, cultivating gratitude, brain games, ballroom dance, playing with Shakespeare, armchair travellers, easy vegan meals, and understanding AI. If you have wisdom, skills or knowledge to impart, please consider sharing your interest with fellow LiR members.

Friday Presentations

These two-hour sessions bring in speakers to discuss a variety of subjects. Previous examples include: Iditarod dog sled races, the solar system, medical cannabis, Nelson history, grizzly bear recovery, Doukhobor history, and art for the news media. If you have experiences or knowledge that you would like to share with a large and enthusiastic audience, please get in touch with the Program Committee.

Other Volunteer Opportunties

Volunteering is a great way to meet new friends and contribute to the larger community. You might like to help out informally on Friday mornings or with other activities, start an interest group, or  join a committee.

We welcome any and all members who choose to join one of our committees. LiR depends upon the work of our committees to organize, communicate and present our activities. Joining a committee is a great way to get to know our community of kind and enthusiastic people.

Committees include programming, communications, social activities, tech support for presentations, membership, safety, archives, and finance.

LiR must be great or I wouldn’t be constantly bragging about it, and persuading strangers to join. Be a committee member and you will meet too many friends – which is good, right?
