LiR Eldercare Scholarship Health Care Assistant Certificate

In 2018, Learning in Retirement awarded its first annual scholarship to support a student in the Selkirk College Health Care Assistant Program. This is an accomplishment of which all members can be proud!

Graduates from this program are well positioned by their studies to develop and hone their confidence, knowledge and skills to provide excellent care and contribute to the physical, emotional and social well-being of clients in a variety of health care settings. As LiR members any one of us, at any time may need their professional and compassionate care.

Not only does your donation support our demographic from a healthcare perspective but it also touches the lives of students in a very impactful, long-lasting way.

At LiR, our foundation is built on recognizing the importance of community, and sharing our love of Nelson and the Kootenays. A very sincere thank you to all of our members, past and present, who have contributed to the Eldercare Health Care Assistant Certificate Scholarship.

To make a gift to the LiR Eldercare Scholarship, you can donate online, by cheque, or in person at a LiR event.

When completing your online donation on the Selkirk website, you will need to make sure you enter where you would like your support directed.

Thank You!

I’d like to express my own and Selkirk College’s incredible gratitude to the Nelson LiR group for their unwavering support of the LiR Elder Care Scholarship. Your kindness and commitment to education help students overcome the many challenges they face during their studies. Your support has paved the way for their future success, which benefits the broader community with the many locally trained nurses in the region.  The commitment of your group to come together and strive for lifelong learning is truly inspiring. Your generosity and investment in the next generation of leaders are invaluable, and your contributions make a significant difference in shaping a brighter future for us all. I cannot thank you enough for your continued support, and I wish every member all the best for the coming year!

Many thanks,

Andrew Jupp
Manager, Advancement and Alumni Relations

I thank the people who are willingly and wholeheartedly helping students financially. I consider this a miracle as I never expected to get an email about the scholarship. To the donor, I admire the kind of person you are. Thank you for sharing your blessings. You’ll never know how this amount adds value to my studies, and I will always be grateful and indebted to you all my life. When I can finally reach my Canadian dream, I will remember these days and how you made me feel a divine being is up there through you. Words aren’t enough, but on behalf of my family, I thank you with all my heart.

With lots of joy and gratitude,

Kristine

Thank you for this scholarship, it will help in my long-term goal of becoming a registered nurse, specifically in long-term care for the elderly. You have no idea how much this will help me moving forward.

Brianna
LiR Eldercare Scholarship Recipient

Thank you for your generous LiR Elder Care Scholarship. I was ecstatic and appreciative to learn that I was selected as the recipient. Elder care has become an important part of my life, and aging family members and dementia touch all our lives. Learning about care for aging families and community is something that I am becoming more passionate about, and this education helps me understand and educate others in how to provide care.  I am currently a Health Care Assistant student and hope to become a licensed practical nurse in the near future. By awarding me the LiR Elder Care Scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden, which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school, learning, and my growing family. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I serve on the board of trustees for the Castlegar Library and hope to do more in the community. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals, just as your organization has helped me.
