About Learning in Retirement Nelson

In partnership with Selkirk College’s Continuing Education, LIR is a non-profit society run by volunteer seniors for seniors in Nelson and area.  With a membership currently of about 200, LiR offers a wide range of multi-session courses, Friday drop-in presentations and trivia quiz sessions.

Now that Covid is loosening its grip, we’ll once again be including field trips, interest groups and various activities in our scheduled events.  Our programs are offered in-person and primarily take place on the Silver King Campus of Selkirk College.

To take courses or engage in LiR activities, you must first become a member of LiR.  Membership to join Learning in Retirement is $15 annually.  Courses are taught by volunteers and the costs are $3 per session. For example, Acrylic Painting, a five-session course would be $15.   The Friday drop-in presentations at the Silver King campus of Selkirk College are also $3.

*Note: all our fees are subject to 5% GST.

In any society/organization, the Board and Committees are vital to the survival and vitality of the group.  In Nelson’s LiR, this is particularly important because the entire organization is run by volunteers.  It is their indefatigable work that keeps it vibrant and relevant.

We thank them for their boundless enthusiasm and all the work they have done and continue to do.
